Spring and Summer Everyday Foundation Routine For Combination Oily Skin

Hey Dolls!

I've been trying to do as many requested posts as possible recently. Today's post has been requested quite a few times. I'm going to give a detailed outline of my foundation routine for warmer months. I will also be giving a couple of tips and tricks to help prolong the wear of my face products. This will be a mixture of high end and drugstore products. There are a bunch of amazing products from both; today I will be sharing my favorites. So, without further a do let's jump into it!

Let's begin with a list of products: (Links will be included)

Moving onto skin preparation:
  • I apply my face with the Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer. This primer is crazy matte! It removes any and all shine from my skin.
  • I apply my ELF hydrating under eye primer to my under eye. This adds a bit of moisture to that area and makes it easier for my concealer to go on. I also find that is helps keep my concealer from creasing as much as it usually would.
  • Then I apply my Walgreens' brand SPF 50 lip balm. This preps my lips for lip products as well as keeps my lips protected from the sun.
Onto the foundation and concealer:
  • Using a damp Real Techniques blending sponge I push my Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation in Deep Honey into my skin. I would say this is more of a medium coverage, rather than full. I allow this to set for at least 30 seconds or more. Allowing the foundation to set will help it better adhere to the skin. (If I feel the need to blend in my foundation more I use the ELF Ultimate Blending Brush. I use buffing motions with this brush.)
  • While my foundation sets I apply my L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer in Fawn to my undereyes. During the spring and summer I find applying less product is super important, so I only apply concealer to my undereyes where I did it most. I use my Real Techniques blending sponge to blend this in.
  • Literally right after I finish blending my concealer I apply NYX HD Finishing Powder in Banana. I use my Real Techniques blending sponge to press the powder into my skin. Apply the powder as soon as I finish blending my concealer helps with creasing. Also using my damp blending sponge will help keep the powdery look at bay.
  • Now that my foundation is dry and my concealer is on and set I have to set my foundation. I use my Real Techniques powder brush and my L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Powder in N8 Cappuccino. I apply it mostly to my t-zone and a little to the rest of my face.
Moving onto Bronzing, Contouring, and Highlighting:
  • Most days I mix ELF Contouring Blush and Bronzer Powder in Antigua (only the bronzer) and City Color Sunlight Trio in Collection 1 (Only the bronzer) together on my Real Techniques Blush Brush and apply that to my face. I apply this anywhere I need to bronze. So, my cheeks, my temples, and my chin.  Other day if I want to do more I apply only the ELF bronzer and then I contour with the City Color Matte Bronzer and my ELF contouring brush.
  • I generally don't add blush, but if I do it will almost always be the Milani Baked Blush in Bellissimo Bronze on the cheeks.
  • I don't always highlight, but if I do I apply Gerard Cosmetics BB Plus Illumination Facial Creme to my cheek bones. I will not apply it anywhere else.
Now, let's put on the final touches:
  • It is now time for me to set my face makeup. I use three different things depending on the weather and how long I need my foundation to last. The first setting spray is the Model in a Bottle original setting spray. This makes my foundation last about 8 hours without touch up. I apply this using a stippling brush. Sometimes the spray nozzle can make the product blotchy. The second setting spray is the Mario Badescu Facial Spray is does not make my foundation last and longer than it should. This only removes the powdery finish. I think this for days when I am trying to quickly leave and then come straight back. The third is the Ben Nye Final Seal. This makes my foundation last forever! It does not transfer, it does not get oily, and it does not crease. I use a stippling brush with this as well. The spray nozzle can make it blotchy.
Tips and Tricks for touching up your face:
  • Bring a powder with you. I purchased a smaller stiffer to put some of my ELF SPF 45 powder in. I use this to lightly touch up my face. Also this is perfect because you need to re apply sunscreen every 60 to 80 minutes. So this comes in handy. Don't use too much because this will leave behind a white cast.
  • Keep blotting sheet in your bag. If you aren't a fan of powders than try blotting sheets. They apply no product and they don't take away product. They only remove oil.
Tips and Tricks for prolonging the wear of your face makeup:
  • If primer isn't enough for you apply your favorite mattifying setting powder or spray over your primer. This will help create a more matte surface as well as a surface than will prolong the wear of your face products.
  • Use less makeup. On days where it is extremely hot don't apply a million products. The buildup will be too much and once you are outside it will all melt away. Try BB creams, light coverage foundations, medium coverage foundations, or tinted moisturizers.

That's all Folks!

This routine has worked perfectly for me. Of course I don't apply makeup everyday and I don't always do all of these steps unless I am going to be out and about. Feel free to skip steps, remove and/or switch out products, or simply not use this routine. Remember this is just they way I like to do my makeup; it is basically a guideline.

Updated Skin Care Routine

Hey Dolls!

Welcome back to the makeup junkie! Today's post is going to be my updated skin care routine; this post has
been HIGHLY requested lately. If you follow me on Instagram than you have already seen the sneak peek of my products. I told a few of the Dolls that I was reluctant to show my new routine for a few reasons. The first reason is, this routine is fairly new to me. I have only been using it for about two weeks. I usually don't like to share my skincare routines that early. The second reason is that my products are on the pricier side of things. I have really been investing in my skincare and makeup recently because my skin as not be loving me lately. I have had crazy breakouts, dry patches, irritation, and flaky skin. To combat my recent skincare concerns I have been purchasing better products, with better ingredients. Finding products that help the skin heal and soothe the skin can sometimes mean you must dish out quite a bit of money. Unfortunately, that is what I have had to do but, it has helped tremendously.

The third and final reason is, most of them are professional spa products from a company that only sells there skincare products to a local spa near me. Which mean they won't be accessible to most of the Dolls. This reason makes it difficult to help you all with a similar skin type and/or similar skincare concerns. So, I came up with an idea; I will explain what each product does and based on the explanation you Dolls can find products that are similar. I do suggest you go to a local skincare facility/spa to see an esthetician. Esthetician is a skincare expert that performs different facials, microdermabrasion, and other treatments to help treat varies skincare concerns. They help with acne, aging, pigmentation, dryness, blackheads, and more. Along with giving treatments they also help you find products to use at home to further help with your skincare concern. I went to a local spa and received a few different treatments as well as home care products. Today's updated skincare routine is the home care routine I was given.

My Skincare Products
With all of that said let's jump into this post!

P.S. I use the same routine day and night. (Except for one product!)

Q&A #3

Hey Dolls!

So, I announced another question and answer post a few months ago. It has taken me a while to get to this post. I'm sorry for the delay. Today, I am going to answer a few questions that were asked of me. Let's get start.

P.S. If you ever have questions feel free to contact me whenever. I will be more than happy to help you Dolls out. You can reach me via email and all other social media platforms I am on. The Follow Me tab above will link you to all of my social media accounts as well as my email.

  1. "I'm glad you are on Instagram more. I find you to be hilarious! Are you on any other social media sites?"
    1. I'm glad I am on Instagram more as well. It is a great way to interact with all of you Dolls as well as anyone else in the beauty community. I do have other social media accounts. I will link them here: The Make-up Junkie: Follow Me
  2. "Can you do a makeup storage post? I am struggling to properly store my makeup and I would love see your set up."
    1. I actually am making a video blog for this topic as I type this. Quite a few of your have asked me for an in depth look into my storage. I will post this blog within the next couple of weeks. For now you can link the link here to see a sneak peek of my storage: @picklesandoreos23• Instagram photos and videos
  3. "I have been using your last foundation routine and it has been great, however it has been getting warmer where I live and I was hoping you could post a new foundation routine for summer."
    1. I am really glad you liked that routine! I am currently on the hunt for an amazing summer time foundation. Once I find one and have a set routine I promise to share it with you all.
  4. "I saw you purchased the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation. Do you like it and can you do a review on it?"
    1. I have yet to try this foundation. When I do try the foundation I will definitely review it and let you all know how I like it.
  5. "How did you get rid of your acne?"
    1. I am to be honest I really didn't. It slowly stopped being as severe and it just went away over time with the end of I guess puberty. I did use the acne free system and clean and clear, so that may have helped.
  6. "What do you use to clean your makeup brushes?"
    1. I actually use dawn dish soap and olive oil. I mix them together and swirl my brush in the solution and clean then with my hands. Easy on fuss!
  7. "How to you get rid  of undereye circles?"
    1. Undereye circles are caused by several different things; heredity, lack of sleep, liver problems, and more. Home remedies include chilled green tea bags or metal spoons places on the under eyes, liver detox, and more sleep. There are hundreds of problems that claim to reduce the appearance of under eye circles and bag. I am not certain if any of them work. You can always look at reviews, ingredient lists, and product claims to find the best products for you. I hope that helped!
  8. "If you had to choose only five makeup items to use for the rest of your life which five would you choose?"
    1. Kat Von D Lock-it Foundation
    2. Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Highlight in the copper shade
    3. City Color Matte Bronzer
    4. L'Oreal False Fiber Lashes mascara in Carbon Black
    5. Wet n Wild Fergie Creme Eyeliner in Coco Riche for my eyebrows.
  9. "Can you do an in depth review on the products in your Walgreens haul? I am super curious about the mascara and foundation."
    1. I can do a review for the mascara but, I already have a instagram review for the foundation I will link the review below. If you have an instagram make sure you follow me, becasue every post on this blog is pre-written, so it may take a while for me to review something or post something that you guys would like to see. I generally will use my instagram to talk about products in real time.
  10. "I'm sure that being a beauty blogger you get a lot of questions like this, but I was curious how do you get started in the beauty world.?"
    1. I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but I believe you are asking me how do you become a professional in the beauty community. And if I am correct then my answer would be to be yourself. This is a large community of people. Most people in the beauty world are talented and have a lot of knowledge, but what makes a difference for people is personality. People can sense if you are nice or not. It you aren't personable it is hard to get a following;at least a genuine following. Most people are nice people especially when they are being them self. Moral to my story is be you and you will attract equally real and genuine followers and supporters.
  11. "How is your top five favorite youtube/instagram beauty gurus?"
    1.  MannyMua I have been following him since he became an instagrammer. I feel like he is extremely genuine and real. I see him going places no other male makeup artist has gone.
    2. Amy's Makeup Box has been growing on me recently. She is extremely talented lady and she is super sweet.
    3. Kathleen Lights is amazing. I have been obsessed with her lately. She so genuine, funny, and pretty. I just adore her!
    4. Queenii Rozenblad she is an amazing makeup artist and I love that she doesn't feel the need to only buy high end or only shop at Sephora or Ulta or a makeup counter. Her collection and makeup style is very versatile and vast. Her creatively is amazing. As well as her spirit. I just love her.
    5. What Would Lizzy Do she is so funny and real it is... well unreal. She is raw and truthful. She has no shame in her game. Her reviews and collaborations with companies are genuine. Her tutorials are funny and realistic. Her style and personality is extremely relatable and she is out of this world gorgeous. I have been following her for a minute now and I can truthfully say her is awesome.
  12. "Will you be creating a YouTube channel in the near future?"
    1. That is a question I receive quite a bit from you dolls, but I am not so sure. I live a busy life style and I don't know if I could dedicated myself to my blog and a YouTube account. I am not one to half do something of the magnitude, so I don't know. I won't say no, but I also won't say yes.
  13. "Can you do a room tour? I would love to see how your organize your closet and your makeup?"
    1. I am not sure if I want to do a full on room tour per say. My room isn't that colorful or anything to make an entire tour dedicated to it, but maybe in the future I will.
That's all folks!

Spring and Summer Beauty Must Haves

Hey Dolls!

Spring and Summer is finally upon us! Now that warm weather is here we need to change up our beauty products. Over the years I have found some products that I cannot live without during the warmer months. So, today I am going to share those products with you. Let's jump into it!

Let's begin with skin care:

  1. Body Butters: Body Butter is extremely hydrating and makes the skin look glowy and soft. It is perfect for days when you are wearing shorts or short dresses. I love a lot of different body butter, so I can't really say which is my favorite, but I say that I have a DIY body butter recipe on my blog. That body butter is AMAZING! I highly recommend it.
  2. Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Deep Glow: I definitely don't need to tan, but I do need to even out my skin tone. This is amazing because it give me a sparkly glow as well as hides any discoloration on my legs.
  3. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater: I love this facial spray. It is great for setting makeup or refreshing the skin. It smells awesome and it makes me skin feel soft and hydrated.
  4. Hyaluronic Acid Serum: My skin type is combination oily so I am  not a huge fan of moisturizer during the warmer months. Which is why I stock up on my Hyaluronic Acid Serum during those months. I won't go too in depth on why I use this instead of moisturizer becasue I do have a entire review on it. I will be sure to link it below.
  5. ELF Studio SPF 45 Sunscreen UVA/UVB Protection Powder: I really love this because I am oily and it is a great way to protect my skin from sun damage without adding greasy, heavy sunscreen onto my face.
  6. ELF Studio Contouring Blush and Bronzer Powder in Antigua: This is a beautiful warm, bright powder duo. The blush is not really my cup of tea becasue it is a bright pink blush. However if you are into that then this would be perfect for you. My favorite part of this duo is the bronzer it is extremely warm and glowy. It recommend it for medium deep skin tones or extremely tan people. Medium skin tones and Fair skin tones may find this too warm and too dark.
  7. Milani baked blush in Bellissimo Bronze: I have been raving about this blush for a while now. And it continues to be one of mt favorite. It is so subtle and glowy. It gives me the most beautiful bronzy glow ever. I recommend it to everyone.
  8. Julep Iconic Brow Setting Gel: This is an amazing setting gel. It makes any eyebrow product I use stay in place all day. Doesn't matter if I sweat or sleep in it. I highly recommend this to everyone.
  9. NYX Prismatic Shadows in Golden Peach: I think a peachy eyeshadow with a golden undertone is a must for everyone. It can be used under the eye, on the lid, or in the inner corner. It gives the eyes a beautiful golden goddess glow.
  10. L'Oreal True Match Powder in N8 Cappuccino: It is important for me to have a face powder that I can use due to how oily I become throughout the day. This is an amazing powder becasue it is finely milled and gives flawless coverage without looking cakey.
  11. Kat Von D Lock- It Tattoo Foundation: This is great for me during the evenings becasue it is extreme coverage, but it also is extremely matte. I can get away with not wearing a powder with this and it will be fine for several hours.
  12. Gerard Cosmetics BB Plus Illumination Facial Creme: This is a beautiful golden liquid highlighter. I love it! I won't go into too much detail on this because I have an in depth review on this product.
  13. ELF Studio Radiance Enchancer in Sunrise: I mix this with my concealer to get my face a more glowy appear. It is amazing!
  14. ELF Shimmering Facial Whip in Golden Peach: This is an awesome highlighter and it only cost $1.00!
  15. Hard Candy Glow All the Way  Face and Body Luminizer in Glamazon Bronze: I use this on my body to add a glow to my chest and leg area. I use this in areas that won't touch my clothing. (It bleeds)
  16. L'Oreal Magic Lumi Primer: This is an awesome pearl highlighter. It is doubles and a primer and a highlighter. I only use this as a highlighter though.
  17. Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation: This is a new must have for me. It claims to give full coverage but I believe it only gives off medium coverage. Which is great for days when I don't want too much makeup on. It is lightweight and super mattifying. The formula is mousse like. It is an awesome everyday foundation.
  18. Serect Clinical Strength- This deodorant is a holy grail for me in the summertime. I the warmer months I tend get hot and sweaty quite a bit, so to curb that I use this deodorant. This keeps me dry all day, it has a light scent, and doesn't create a werid film on my clothes or under my arms. I love this stuff; I highly recommend it.
I hope you all enjoyed this post. As always if you have questions or comments feel free to leave them in the comment section below. Also remember to share and 1+ this blog and my page. Thank you for stopping by the Makeup Junkie today! I hope you have a blessed week!

What's in my Makeup Bag?

Hey Dolls!

Welcome back to the Makeup Junkie! I recently received several requests to update my old what is in my
makeup bag. So, that is what I am going to do today! Remember, it is not mandatory to buy or carry in your makeup bag any of this products; this is just what I carry and what I like. With all that said I hope you all enjoy today's post!

Let me stat off by saying, I am an oily girl; most of the products I carry help me keep my oils at bay.

  1. Face powder: I put  in my bag is my face powder. I usually use L'Oreal True Match powder in N8.
  2. ELF kabuki brush: I use this to apply my face powder.
  3. ELF oil blotting sheet: This is pretty self explanatory.
  4. Whatever lip product I am using.
  5. NYX HD finishing powder: I use this under eyes. Sometimes my under eye highlight fades so, I bring my powder with me to touch up.
  6. ELF small tapered brush: I use this to reapply my under eye powder.
  7. Eye lash curler: Just in case my lashes loose their curl.
That's all folks!

Thank you for stopping by the Makeup Junkie! I hope you enjoyed that post. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them in the comments section below. DIY Refreshing Acne Fighting Mask

Hey Dolls!

Welcome Back to the Makeup Junkie! I recently started a new skin care series on the blog called, au naturel. This series is all about easy, natural, DIY skin and hair care. Today I will be sharing a easy recipe for a refreshing acne fighting mask. This is mask is recommend for someone with sensitive, acne prone skin. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, do not have any of the ingredients, or don't like any of the ingredients feel free to remove them or switch them with other ingredients. With all of that said, let's jump into it!

What are the ingredients in this mask and what do they do for the skin?

  • Cucumber:
    • Cucumber is an antioxidant. Antioxidants fight free radicals; free radicals cause wrinkles and fine lines. Cucumber also reduces inflammation, hydrates, brightens, and soothes skin.
  • Distilled Water
  • Bentonite Clay:
    • Bentonite Clay is referred to as a healing clay. Bentonite Clay removes toxins, clears pores, heals damaged skin tissues, evens the tone of the skin, helps prevent breakouts, and smooths the surface of the skin.
How do you use this mask?
Apply the mask once or twice a week using a small fan brush or your fingers. Leave it on the skin until it he comes hard.

How do you store this mask?
I would not store it. I would make a fresh batch before each use.

What is the recipe for this mask?

  • 1 part bentonite clay
  • 1/2 part pureed cucumber
  • 1/2 part distilled water
Step by Step:
  1. Add 1 part bentonite clay to a mixing bowl.
  2. Add 1/2 a part of freshly pureed cucumber to the same mixing bowl. (1/2 a part is 1/2 the amount of 1 full part. For example, 1 cup of clay to a 1/2 cup of pureed cucumber.)
  3. Add 1/2 a part of distilled water into the same mixing bowl.
  4. Mix the ingredients together until they are blended together.
Tips?
Do not over use this mask. Only use it at maximum 2 times a week.At minimum once a week. Especially if you have sensitive skin. Over use can result in irritation and over drying of the skin.

What can people expect to see after using this mask?
People can expect to see smaller pores, less acne, and less oiliness within 1-4 uses. The more often this is used the better the results.

That's all Folks!

Everyday Contour and Highlighting Routine

Hey Dolls!

Welcome back to the Makeup Junkie!

I have been looking through my old post and noticed I haven't updated my everyday highlight and contour routine in a while. So, I figured it was time to do an update. I do want to remind everyone that this is my routine; you don't have to use this routine. This is simply what I like to do. This is simply a guideline. Use whatever products and routines you would like. If anyone is interested in the products I used I will list/link them below. With all of that said, let's jump into it!

Let's beginning with a list of products:

Moving onto the step by step tutorial: (Make sure you have already prepped and primed the skin as well as applied your foundation.)

  1. Apply an orange color corrector under the eyes using fingers or a small, flat brush. My correct is inside of the NYX concealer palette in dark.
  2. Then apply a concealer 1-3 shades lighter than your skin tone onto the "high" points of the face. The "high" points of the face would be the under eyes, the bridge of the nose, the forehead, the chin, the cupid's bow, and the brow bone. I mix the Maybelline Master Conceal Concealer and the LA Girl Pro concealer together and apply them with a flat foundation brush. Blend the concealer out with a beauty blending sponge; make sure to use tapping motions. Once the concealer is pressed into the skin buff out the harsh lines with your foundation brush. I use the ELF Ultimate Blending Brush as my foundation brush.
  3. Quickly set the highlighted areas with a yellow toned loose powder. Apply excess powder to "bake" the concealer. Baking helps set the powder and make it last longer. Allow the excess powder to sit on the skin for at least 60 seconds. I generally leave it until I am ready to apply my face powder. I use the ELF mineral booster in Corrective Yellow.
  4. Then apply bronzer using a tapered blush brush onto the cheekbones, upper forehead, and chin. I use the ELF Contouring Blush and Bronzer in Antigua. I like this bronzer because it is extremely warm which helps me add a sunkissed glow to the skin.
  5. After bronzer I apply contour. I use the ELF Contouring Brush and the City Color Contour Effect palette to contour. I use the Contour shade in that palette. I contour my cheekbones, temples, jaw line, and chin using the contouring brush. I use a straight line to apply the product and then circular motions to blend in the product. If the product isn't blending well, then I use my Ultimate Blending brush and circular movements to further buff in the product.
  6. I take a small domed brush and apply the same contour powder onto the sides of my nose to contour my nose. Then I take a larger, fluffier blending brush and blend out the harsh lines. I apply the the contour powder going all the way up to the inner part of my eyebrow.
  7. Once I am finished contouring I remove the excess powder from my highlighted areas.
  8. Taking the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and my L'Oreal true match powder I go in circular motions and buff the powder all over my face. Even over my contour, but not over my highlight.
  9. Then I apply my highlighter with a fan brush. This varies depending on the day.
  10. Lastly I apply my blush with a stippling brush. My blush is usually orange, salmon, bronze, or warm in tone.
Sometimes I set my face with a setting spray, but I am not leaving my house for a while or I won't be getting to my destination for a while then I won't. Once I have completed highlighting and contour I usually apply my mascara, put finishing touches on my eye makeup, and lip products and I am done with my makeup. (I usually do my eyes before I do my face makeup.) I hope this was helpful for you all!

That's all folks!

DIY Strengthening Hair Mask

Hey Dolls!

Welcome Back to the Makeup Junkie! I recently started a new skin care series on the blog called, au naturel. This series is all about easy, natural, DIY skin care. Today I will be sharing a easy recipe for a strengthening hair mask. This is recommended for everyone. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, do not have any of the ingredients, or don't like any of the ingredients feel free to remove them or switch them with other ingredients. With all of that said, let's jump into it!

What ingredients are in this hair mask and what do they do for the hair?

  • Olive Oil:
    • Olive oil contains fatty acids that coat the shaft of the hair; fatty acids will protect the hair from damage as well as make the hair shiny.
  • Egg:
    • Egg contains protein. Protein will strengthen the hair shaft. The stronger the shaft of hair the less breakage you will experience.
  • Plain Greek Yogurt:
    • Greek yogurt also contains protein, as well as natural moisturizers. Which will aid in strengthening the hair. Greek yogurt also has anti-inflammatory properties; due to this, greek yogurt will soothe the scalp.
  • Honey:
    • Honey also has anti-inflammatory properties as well as moisturizing properties.
How do you use this hair mask?
Apply the mask on the hair. Move the product up until to the roots and massage. Finger comb the rest of the product into the shaft hair and ends. Place a plastic bag or cap on the head and leave the mask to sit for 20 minutes or more. The longer the mask sits, the better the results will be. For more intensity use a salon style hair dryer to warm the mask up.

How do you store this mask?
You don't store this mask. This should be made fresh before each use.

What is the recipe for this hair mask?

  • 1/2 cup Organic extra virgin Olive oil
  • 1-2 Eggs (The more eggs... the more protein.)
  • Plain All natural Greek Yogurt
  • Organic and/or raw honey
Step by Step:
  1. Place all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix them together thoroughly
Tips?
On severely damaged hair: use this mask 1-2 times a week. Try taking Biotin supplements to help speed up the re-growth/strengthening process.

For all hair types: Use cold water to rinse this hair mask out. Cold water will help seal the shaft of the hair and will add shine and body.

DO NOT over use this mask! Too much protein will actually add to hair damage and hair loss.

What can people except to see after using this mask?

All people will see softer, shiner hair within 1 use. Most people should expect to see stronger hair within 1 to 5 uses. The more damage the hair has sustained the longer it will take to see lasting results. Of course results will always vary depending on the person.

Full Coverage Spring/Summer Foundation Routine

Hey Dolls!

Warm months are ahead which means the skin is going to become oilier. So, it's time to change up our foundation routine techniques. I personally like to use less makeup, that is more matte than in the Winter and Fall. This way I can keep my oily skin matte longer. In today's post I will give a step by step guide to my Spring and Summer Foundation Routine. I will also give tips and tricks to keeping your skin matte longer. So, let's jump into it!

Let's begin with the products I use: All products listed below are my favorite face makeup products of the moment. They all work together nicely to keep me more matte than I would be if I didn't use them. I highly recommend all of them.

Primer(s): My three favorite primers of the moment are, Rimmel's Stay Matte Primer, Dr. Brandt's Pore No More Pore Refiner w/ Hint of Tint,  ELF Hydrating undereye primer and NYX Angel Veil.

Foundation(s): My favorite foundations of the moment are, L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear, and Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo Foundation.

Powder(s): Rimmel's Stay Matte Powder, ELF 45 SPF powder, L'Oreal's True Match, and NYX's HD Finishing Powder in Banana.

Concealer(s): L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer and NYX 3C Conceal, Correct, Contour Palette.

Foundation Brush(es) and Applicators: Real Techniques' Expert Face Brush, ELF powder brush, ELF Ultimate Blending Brush, and Real Techniques Beauty Blending Sponges.

Powder Brush(es): Real Techniques Powder Brush and ELF Small Tapered Brush

Concealer Brush(es): ELF Flawless Concealer Brush, My finger tips, and Real Techniques Beauty Blending Sponges.

Setting Spray(s): Urban Decay's All Nighter and Urban Decay's De-Slick

Step by Step Tutorial:

Begin with Prepping the skin:

  1. Clean and moisturize the skin.
  2. Apply Sunscreen.
  3. Apply Primer. After I apply primer I then set the primer with a translucent powder. This step is optional, but it does help me stay more matte.
Move onto foundation:
  1. Apply your favorite foundation onto the skin using a dense foundation brush. Use stippling motions to push the product into the skin, then use blending or buffing motions to blend any harsh lines and create a flawless base. Allow the foundation to settle into the skin and dry for several minutes.
  2. Once your foundation has dried apply your favorite highlighting concealer onto the high points of your face and the under eyes. The high points are the bridge of the nose, forehead and chin. If you need to hide dark marks use a color corrector underneath your concealer. I will link a post to color correcting below.
  3. After applying concealer take a fluffy, tapered brush and apply a translucent or brightening powder to the areas where concealer was placed.
  4. Then take a large, fluffy powder brush and apply your favorite face powder. I personally add two when I am trying to say extremely matte. I dust on ELF's 45 SPF powder it will help protect my skin from sun damage. Then I dust my L'Oreal True Match powder of top; this will keep my skin matte.
  5. After my powder is on, I spray my face with a oil control setting spray. This step is optional, but it does help keep me matte longer. It also takes away the appearance of powdery-ness.
  6. Lastly, I take a piece of tissue or a oil blotting sheet and I absorb any oils or excess makeup off of my skin. This step is optional, but I find it to aid in keeping my skin matte.
How to "de-slick" the skin throughout the day:
Although the routine above does help keep my matte for a while it doesn't keep me matte all day. So, I do have to blot, re-powder, and set again. I simply take a tissue or oil blotting sheet to remove excess oil, then I lightly dust powder all over my oily regions, and I spray a setting powder to remove any powdery-ness.

ELF Contouring Brush Review

Hey Dolls!
ELF Contouring Brush

It's been almost three weeks since I put up a post entitled Beauty Haul #3 featuring Mini Reviews. In that
post I hauled two new ELF brushes. I told you all in the review that I have not used these brushes at the time; I said I would give them a try and would review them at a later date. Well, that later date has come! Today I will review the ELF Contouring Brush. I will be reviewing this brush with the same bullet point style that I do with of my other reviews. If you are at all interested in my other reviews click the link below. It will take you directly to all other reviews I have. With all that said let's jump into it!

Let's begin with product claims, price, availability, etc.

ELF says, "This brush is specifically designed for advanced makeup application to help achieve professional looks. The densely packed hair and structured shape achieves flawless dimension along the cheekbones, forehead, and jawline for targeted contouring. Perfect for using with pressed or loose bronzer powder, liquids, and creams to create beautiful sculpting all over the face. This brush is made by artisans with expert craftsmanship to cut, shape, and hand-assemble the ultra-fine synthetic hair for a luxurious experience."

This brush retails for $6.00 U.S. dollars and it can be purchased on ELF's website. I will place a direct link below. At the time of this review, this brush is available.

Onto the Pros:

  • Soft Bristles
  • Easy to use
  • Blends like a dream
  • Creates a soft, well-define contour
Next up... the Cons:
  • Nothing!
Final Thoughts:
I love this brush! It makes contouring quick, precise, and easy. I highly recommend it!

Anything else?
Yes. When using this brush do not blend in circular motions. Create a straight line on the hallows of your cheeks and blend the line upwards. Blending in a circular motion or downwards can make you appear dirty.
